PVC, zinc or aluminium gutters: which material should you choose?
·4 min
PVC gutters: cheapest option, easy to install. Downside: brittle after UV exposure after 15–20 years.
Zinc gutters: classic choice for authentic homes. Zinc is self-healing thanks to patina and lasts 50+ years.
Aluminium gutters: lightweight, rust-free and available seamless (less leak risk). Lifespan 30–40 years.
Cast iron gutters: rarely fitted today but common in older home renovations. Heavy but extremely durable.
Regardless of material: all gutters require cleaning at least twice a year.
Choose wisely during renovation: discuss with your contractor which material suits your home's style and maintenance budget.
